Position Description - Technology Services Specialist

Background

Lakeshores Library System (LLS) seeks an individual with strong technical competencies and a deep commitment to libraries who will help us provide a trusted source of technology-related services to public libraries in Southeastern Wisconsin.

About LLS:

LLS was established as a single county library service for Racine County in the 1970's. We became a federated library system eleven years later in 1981. In 1982, the Walworth County Board of Supervisors voted to join LLS, thus setting in motion our transformation into a multi-county regional public library system as of January 1st, 1983. Fifteen municipal libraries are the core members of LLS. Beyond our core members, LLS provides services to the Racine Correctional Institution and a local school. Further, LLS provides technical staffing and administrative support for the SHARE Consortium. “SHARE” is a network of public libraries spanning Kenosha, Racine and Walworth counties. Rock County is set to join SHARE in early 2018, which will bring the total number of institutions served to 26.

How this job fits in:

This position will expand the capacity of the LLS staff in order to keep pace with the needs of our member libraries and the SHARE Consortium. The exact way this position will fit into our team will depend on the incoming skill set of the individual. An ideal candidate will possess or be working on an MLIS -or- will have had a service-oriented role within another technical field or industry. It’s critical that the person filling this position is extremely comfortable with technology, has excellent “people” skills, and has an ability to coordinate projects. Funding for the position is derived from ongoing support agreements with SHARE partners.

Some examples of daily or occasional duties:

  • Assisting in staffing the LLS HelpDesk service
  • Providing PC, network, and occasional server support (remote or in-person)
  • Learning and making extensive use of technology tools (SirsiDynix Symphony ILS, Enterprise, BlueCloud Analytics, MobileCirc, and Linux command line tools)
  • Using Perl, Python, Javascript or other programming languages & techniques to solve service challenges
  • Working with member library staff via email, telephone, google hangout, and in-person
  • Developing and delivering training to library staff
  • Conceiving, planning and deploying innovative new system services
  • Working with committees & groups of library staff
  • Participating on state-level committees and initiatives

Additional Information:

  • This position will be based out of the LLS offices in Waterford, WI
  • Valid Wisconsin driver’s license and reliable vehicle required
