Position Description – System Services Analyst (Technical)

The primary goal of this position is to help public libraries thrive. The System Services Analyst conducts data analysis and crafts visualizations to help libraries identify needs, engage with their communities, and solve challenges. This position also expands the local IT support capacity of the LLS tech team in implementing a program of local IT support services offered to member libraries and other partners. This is a blended position which may evolve according to the skill set or professional strengths of the individual.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

Analytical Role:

  • Learns and communicates effectively to achieve understanding of library needs;

  • Extracts, manipulates and analyzes data from many sources;

  • Makes use of data visualization tools, programming languages, library management software, and other tools to support decision-making, programming choices, collection management, and community engagement.

Technical Role:

  • Functions as a member of the tech team to implement local IT support services as  orchestrated by the IT manager;

  • Helps staff the LLS helpdesk service;

  • Configures and deploys arrays of windows-based pc's;

  • Configures and deploys local area network equipment;

  • Configures and deploys peripheral hardware such as barcode scanners, receipt printers, credit card swipers, etc.;

  • Occasionally manages basic windows servers.

General:

  • Performs scheduled and impromptu on-site visits;

  • Performs scheduled and impromptu remote troubleshooting;

  • Communicates effectively with colleagues, member library directors and staff to learn needs, deliver services, and maintain trust;

  • Contributes to ongoing evaluation and improvement of the services and service quality of LLS;

  • Performs other assignments as required.

Qualifications

This position requires completion of a bachelor’s degree or higher. Education background in an IT-related field is preferred. Non-IT education background acceptable only with significant demonstrable technical aptitude. 3 years of related experience is preferred. MLS or MLIS not necessary, but is a plus. Valid Wisconsin driver’s license and reliable vehicle are essential.

Physical Requirements (with reasonable adaptations)

This position requires frequent reading and interpretation of screens, as well as entering and accessing data via multiple methods. Routine physical office functions such as lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, sitting, standing, walking, climbing and stooping are also required. The position requires the ability to speak and listen effectively. Traveling legally using a personal vehicle is also a requirement.

Working Conditions

The individual works in the offices of LLS and in other locations as required by job responsibilities.
